$3 Million Pegasus Draws Field of 10

23 Jan

A field of 10, led by Pacific Classic winner Higher Power and multiple graded stakes winner Mucho Gusto, is set to contest the $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Guflstream Park this Saturday. Despite the late scratch of the top two betting choices, Omaha Beach and Spun To Run, there’s still plenty of high stakes action to get excited about at The Track That Frank Built.

Frankly, the Pegasus is just the tip of the iceberg on program that includes eight additional stakes races worth another $2.2 million. Of course, almost half of that is the $1,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Turf, which has attracted a robust field of 12, led by the globe-trotting mare, Magic Wand (7/2).

Any way you slice it, it all adds up to one “can’t miss” brunch of racing action that gets underway at Pleasanton OTB, starting with the 3rd race from Gulfstream, the $150,000 World of Trouble Turf Sprint, at approximately 9:28am. Eight consecutive stakes races follow, starting with the 5th race, the $150,000 Ladies’ Turf Sprint at 10:27am, culminating with the Pegasus Turf and World Cup Late Double, as races 11 and 12, at 1:49pm and 2:34pm, respectively.

Of course, the Rainbow 6 with its $3 Million plus single ticket jackpot is in play over the last six races on the program, races 7-12. Here’s how the All Stakes Rainbow 6, Late Pick 5 and Late Pick 4 races round out the Pegasus card:

7) $150,000 Fred W. Hooper Stakes (G3) – Rainbow 6 – 11:31am
8) $200,000 La Prevoyante Stakes (G3) – Late Pick 5 – 12:03pm
9) $200,000 Inside Information Stakes – Late Pick 4 – 12:36pm
10) $200,000 W. L. McKnight Stakes (G3) – 1:12pm
11) $1,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Turf – 1:49pm
12) $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) – 2:34pm

Field sizes for the Rainbow 6 races, before scratches, are a robust 14, 10, 12, 12, 12 and 12, making for one of the best betting cards of the winter racing season. Be sure to get here early and secure your favorite seat for Pegasus World Cup Saturday at Pleasanton OTB. Doors open at 9:15am.
