Claiming Crown Saturday at Gulfstream

5 Dec

The “Blue Collar Breeders’ Cup” goes down Saturday with the annual running of the Claiming Crown at Gulfstream Park and we’ll have virtually the entire pack of stakes races for the claiming ranks covered at Pleasanton OTB. The yearly task of trying to decode the Claiming Crown races is a challenge, as last year’s average winning mutuel price over the eight races was $22.40 – about 10/1 odds for each winner.

Here’s the lineup we’ve got in store for you this Saturday from Gulfstream Park:

4) $110,000 Glass Slipper Stakes – 1:17pm
5) $110,000 Distaff Dash Stakes – 1:47pm
6) $110,000 Rapid Transit Stakes – 2:20pm (Rainbow 6)
7) $110,000 Canterbury Stakes – 2:52pm (Late Pick 5)
8) $110,000 Iron Horse Stakes – 3:24pm (Late Pick 4)
9) $125,000 Tiara Stakes – 3:56pm
10) $200,000 Jewel Stakes – 4:28pm
11) $125,000 Emerald Stakes – 5:00pm

Triggered by 36/1 and 14/1 winners, last year’s 50-cent Late Pick 5 returned $20,128 with the 50-cent Late Pick 4 paying $6,652. Don’t miss your shot at some great payouts on this Saturday’s Claiming Crown card at Pleasanton OTB.

Cigar Mile Headlines Aqueduct Action

5 Dec

The highly-anticipated return of Kentucky Derby runner-up Maximum Security takes place Saturday in a fully-loaded Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct. Seeking to put a bow on a season in which he’s won 5 of 7 races, including crossing the line first in the Derby before being disqualified for interference, #5 Maximum Security has been installed at the 3/2 morning-line favorite in a field of 11. His main rival figures to be impressive Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner #6 Spun To Run (5/2), who breaks just to the favorite’s outside and has the speed to run with him from the opening bell.

It remains to be seen if any of the other nine entrants can take advantage of an expected speed duel on the lead and upset the apple cart at what should be a generous price should the top two choices fail to hit the wire first. The $750,000 Cigar Mile (G1) is the 10th and featured race on a program that also includes the $250,000 Remsen (G2) and $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes for aspiring two-year-olds and two-year-old fillies.

Pleasanton OTB will pick up Saturday’s Aqueduct program starting with the 5th race, just in time for the EMPIRE 6 MANDATORY PAYOUT (Pick 6 jackpot currently stands at $585,944), at approximately 10:35am. Pleasanton OTB will carry all of the graded stakes on the program, in the following order:

Race 5 – $70,000 Maidens – 10:35am (Empire 6)
Race 6 – $250,000 Go For Wand Handicap (G2) – 11:09 (Late Pick 5)
Race 7 – $70,000 Maidens – 11:41am (Late Pick 4)
Race 8 – $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) – 12:13pm
Race 9 – $250,000 Remsen Stakes (G2) – 12:43pm
Race 10 – $750,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) – 1:16pm
